It was a dream come true for the ‘I am Kalam’ kid, Harsh Mayar when he got to meet superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Smile foundation, which has produced the film had sent a letter to Mr. Bachchan with details about the 'K for Kalam' movement which provides education to the underprivileged. Big B graciously obliged to meet the main protagonist of the film and was greatly impressed by the child actor.
Harsh Mayar is an underprivileged kid from a redevelopment cluster society in Delhi and represents millions who aspire and hold Dr. Kalam as their role model. The normally talkative Harsh was just left stupefied by the aura of Mr. Bachchan, and was speechless when the superstar presented him with two books of his biography ‘ To Be or not to Be –Amitabh Bachchan, written by Khalid Mohammad with a note wishing him and the film all success. He complimented Harsh for daring to dream big which also earned him the National Award.
Later in the night, Amitabh Bachchan quoted on his blog: “In office meeting up with that small little power house Harsh, the star of the film ” I am Kalam ” produced by the Smile Foundation that works tirelessly for the underprivileged, providing them with opportunities and hope for a better future .. to excel and achieve Harsh a confident alert and most vocal little fellow .. has won the National Award this year as the best child artist and now has travelled in to Mumbai from Delhi to meet me and then go back...simply admire these qualities of amateurs finding their way into the industry and so savvy with all the necessary and required equipment for film.”
Harsh was disappointed when he was rejected for 'Chillar Party' as he wanted to meet Salman Khan but now he is not complaining. Says Harsh, “I am just living a dream. Never have I ever dreamt that I would be meeting the biggest icon of the industry. I am Kalam is the wish fulfilment of all my dreams and the dreams of all underprivileged children to get an education. I thank Smile foundation for making it happen
